Golden retriever had served as bat dog for 10 years.

The golden retriever who served as bat boy for the Trenton Thunder died Monday at 13.

Chase That Golden Thunder (better known as Chase) fetched bats for the New York Yankees AA affiliate since 2003. The team held a retirement party for him during Friday night's game. The first 2,000 fans in attendance received a Chase bobblehead and the crowd was treated to a tribute video featuring some of the dog's greatest moments, including a trip to Yankee Stadium.

Chase was diagnosed with cancer in February and had been suffering from arthritis.

In 2002, he became the first dog to exclusively fetch bats for a minor league baseball team.

'He's just a one-of-a-kind dog,' Eric Lipsman, Trenton Thunder senior vice president of corporate sales and Chase's owner said Friday night. 'That's all I can say. He lived for this. He just absolutely loved to be out there on the field.'

Chase's son, Derby, will continue to provide entertainment and adorableness at Thunder games.
